Return

Back in the swing of things. That crazy rush that happens when you switch from home life back to school life, the schedule changes, the new people, the old faces. Back to practicing, back to throwing, back to playing ultimate. Back to no laundry machines, no dishwashers and a leaky closet. Life is good.

Mini recap on life (because I am a slacker at posting)... Classes have started, are going well. The film school screwed me out of a class I need to take for my minor, which I really hope won't put me behind for graduation.

Started playing ultimate again, and working out. My body hurts most days, but I can feel myself getting stronger, which is really exciting. Watched PINK and the Hellions play at Santa Barbara. The Hellions finished 4th, which was really exciting, but also frustrating because we'd only had two practices before that tournament. The B Team did great! And life keeps moving on...

The hernia is healing! Tomorrow will be 8 weeks after surgery which means I am cleared to play. Which is fortunate because Pres Day is this weekend, and I am so stoked to be on the line instead of on the sidelines. Practicing has been going well, but I really need to work on my touch throws and man defense. Goals for the semester. I am also a little nervous about how my playing in real games will effect the rest of the team's flow and how three days of ultimate will feel on my incision... all unknowns. But I am so excited to be playing that I almost can't focus on anything else.

I went to Vegas last weekend to watch some ultimate and see what Sin City is like when you're 21. It didn't disappoint, but the weather did. Those hay fields in Vegas turned to muddy slop. I didn't stand out there too long, got to see some good games though. And had fun with my teammates that went. I wish I had pictures to show you, but my camera is on the fritz. :(

I will be posting more. It's my... February... resolution.

Belated Christmas Randomness

So the Holidays are officially over, and I go back to school in 10 days.

Reminiscing on the holidays, it always amazes me how things can change and yet stay the same. This is the first Holiday season that is truly split between my crazy mixed family now that my Dad has remarried. The snow, the "orgy of gifts" (as my Dad says), the amazingly large meals, the grouchy relatives, the never ending dishes, the banter and teasing, the laughter is the same in both my houses now. And yet having to split my time between my mom and my dad, figuring out logistics, planning, and now being allowed to drink are all new. I love my absolutely huge family!

Here are some pictures from the event... more to be added as people finally send them to me.
Andrea, dressed festively.

My Grandpa... he's funny.

Sitting on the couch, enjoying the atmosphere.

I also got to visit lots of friends and family, which was awesome. New Years at Stateline in the Casinos was a new experience, but was awesome to go with some members of the new part of the family. The only weird thing is that the club is in the room that used to be the theater where I had dance recitals when I was little. Let's just say there was lots of champagne, but not any dancing because I am still not allowed to do with this hernia.

The hernia is at the 17 day post-surgery mark. Which means 11 days until I can resume normal activities, 25 days until I can practice, 39 days until I can play full out, and 42 days until my first tournament back! I'm excited.

I am also almost ready to go back to school. We take my brother back to school tomorrow. Andrea has already left. And people are driving away from the Lake, and despite me loving my family, I need to head back, I'm sick of being cooped up in the house most of the time.

So I leave with this parting shot of home. Sunset from the deck.
